Arthur John Hamilton Luard (3 September 1861 – 22 May 1944) was an English cricketer. Luard was a right-handed batsman and an officer in the British Army. ==Early life and military career== Luard was born at Waltair, India son of Colonel George Francis Luard and Jane, daughter of Lieutenant colonel Johnstone Hamilton. He joined the Army in May 1882 and took part in the Burmese Expedition and was later promoted to Captain, 2nd Battalion Norfolk Regiment. Luard served in South Africa at the time of the Second Boer War, 1900-2, he was Mentioned in Despatches in 1901; awarded two medals and created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order in 1901. He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in September, 1908 and Colonel in April, 1912 before resigning in September, 1912.〔(Arthur Luard military service records ) Retrieved 9 April 2012〕
